Michiel - Revenu Manager Belgium


Michiel is Revenue and Distribution Manager at Pillows City Hotel Brussels Centre & Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park. He has been doing this since 2017, but started out in the Front Office in 2013. “This is not unusual at Pillows Hotels”, he explains. “Pillows Hotels is a growing company, and you get all the chances to grow with it.”

My Job
As revenue manager, Michiel is responsible for the pricing of the rooms and the online sale of these rooms through partners such as Booking.com and Expedia. “My job is to make sure that these rooms are occupied as much as possible, at the right rate, during the right period”. Michiel spends a lot of time alone in his office, but he still manages to talk to his colleagues regularly. “The nature of my job means that I spend a lot of time working on my own, but you can regularly find me on the workfloor. I also visit our other hotels, such as Pillows in Brussels. We all get on very well with each other. We organise a lot and we also regularly get together outside work.”

Thinking along and determining a direction

Michiel has always worked in the hotel industry. “I started out in the front office at Pillows City Hotel Brussels Centre. in 2012. After this, I worked as Manager of Duty at another hotel, but I ended up coming back.” Michiel thinks Pillows Hotels is an attractive employer for several reasons. “It’s not a very large group, so the lines of communication with management are always very short. You are given plenty of leeway and are required to make a lot of decisions yourself. One of the main reasons why I returned was because you really get to influence the direction forward for the collection. Pillows Hotels has interesting plans for the future and I want to be part of this.”

Experience
Pillows Hotels is a growing company and everyone is invited to think along, according to Michiel. “They value your opinion just as much or even more than the opinion of your superiors. This group has a lot of experience to work with. Many of the managers started out in the Front Office or in the restaurant, so everyone knows what it’s like on the workfloor. That’s why working here is so enjoyable."
